Almost every first Lamington plan fails or succeeds here — not at the waterfall. Choose Green Mountains or Binna Burra, then a short-walk day or one Grade 4 circuit. Do not invent a hybrid that stacks Toolona, the Border Track and the Tree Top Walk onto a late Gold Coast start.

moderateMoran’s Falls Track is a 4.4 km return Grade 4 walk (about 1.5 hours) from the Python Rock and Moran’s Falls trailhead. Down through forest to a lookout over the falls — short by Lamington standards, still wet-rock serious.

Toolona Creek Circuit
hardToolona Creek Circuit is a 17.4 km Grade 4 loop from Green Mountains (about 6 hours). Queensland Parks recommends walking it clockwise. Creek lines, multiple falls, roots and wet rock — this is the reason many people climb the plateau, and the walk that wrecks a late-start Gold Coast day.

Border Track
hardThe Border Track is Lamington’s 21.4 km Grade 4 one-way walk between Green Mountains and Binna Burra along the McPherson Range. Official Queensland Parks time is about 7 hours. It is also a section of the Gold Coast Hinterland Great Walk. There is no ordinary-vehicle through-road between the two trailheads.

Plateau weather is not Gold Coast weather
- Two sections, no ordinary-vehicle through-road — pick Green Mountains or Binna Burra before you leave town.
- Green Mountains road is the wrong tool for RVs over 6 m / towing — check official visiting-safely notes.
- Creek circuits stay wet and slick when Broadbeach looks fine — grip shoes and a rain shell.
- Tree Top Walk is private (O’Reilly’s), not a Queensland Parks track.
- Restricted areas (Egg Rock / Kurraragin and others) are not attractions.

Is there an entry fee for Lamington National Park?
Day use is usually free — Queensland national parks do not normally charge a vehicle entry fee, but check the official park page in case that changes. Camping, private lodges and tours are paid separately.
How long from Brisbane or the Gold Coast?
About 2 hours from central Brisbane to either section, plus the slow winding plateau road. From Broadbeach to Binna Burra allow around 70 minutes. No public transport. Leave time to drive down in daylight.
What should I do first on a first visit?
Pick one section (Green Mountains or Binna Burra). Most first-timers do short Green Mountains walks (Centenary, Python Rock, Moran’s Falls) rather than stacking Toolona and the Border Track on day one.
Green Mountains or Binna Burra?
Different roads, no ordinary-vehicle through-link. Green Mountains = O’Reilly’s / Canungra. Binna Burra = Beechmont. Choose before you leave town.
Is the plateau weather the same as the Gold Coast?
No. The plateau is often cooler, wetter and cloudier than Broadbeach on the same day. Pack a rain shell and grip shoes even when the coast looks fine. This site does not show live closures — check Queensland Parks alerts.
