Severe weather associated with Tropical Cyclone Alfred damaged Scenic Rim parks. Queensland Parks still publishes a severe-weather alert for Lamington and the Gold Coast Hinterland Great Walk, applying to 31 December 2026 (alert updated 14 May 2026). Creek circuits, side loops and remote camps are the usual casualties.
A snapshot is useful. A snapshot is also stale the moment a ranger changes tape. Queensland Parks park-alerts is the live source. Screenshot it on home Wi-Fi. Coverage on the plateau is not reliable.

Official alert 25025 (severe weather damage) still applies 14 March 2025 to 31 December 2026, last updated 14 May 2026. Listed open in that update: Border Track between Binna Burra and Green Mountains, Gold Coast Hinterland Great Walk, Toolona Creek circuit, Box Forest circuit, Moran’s Falls, Python Rock, Centenary track, Tullawallal, Caves track, and several other named Binna Burra walks. Listed closed or return-the-same-way only: Illinbah circuit eastern side; Coomera circuit from Coomera Falls lookout to the southern Border Track junction; Albert River circuit from the northern Border Track junction to Echo Point. Named remote bush camps appear on the same notice; camping permits for closed areas are suspended.
Woonoongoora Walkers’ Camp works still apply 5 May to 30 September 2026 (alert 26490). The August planned-burns notice was not on the live Gold Coast park-alerts list on 13 Sep 2026. Night before you travel: park-alerts + the official journey URL. On the track, tape and rangers beat this article.
What to do if the long walk is closed

Green Mountains: Centenary, Python Rock, Moran’s Falls if those remain listed open. Binna Burra: Tullawallal or signed lookouts. Do not invent Coomera Gorge as Plan B. Do not start the Border Track as a “detour.”
Remote camping: still permit-only, still closed 1 Dec–31 Jan regardless of cyclone news. Check the official booking service.
