Full-day Toolona Creek Circuit

~6 hours walking + Green Mountains access (early start from Brisbane or the Gold Coast)Best for: Fit walkers whose whole day is one clockwise Grade 4 waterfall circuit

Green Mountains trailhead, Toolona Creek Circuit clockwise: 17.4 km, about 6 hours, Grade 4. Creek lines and falls. No Border Track, no vineyard, no Tree Top Walk prelude. Alerts first — flood and post-storm closures are real.

This is the waterfall day people imagine when they say Lamington — and the day they ruin by leaving the Gold Coast late. Official: 17.4 km circuit, about 6 hours, Grade 4, walk CLOCKWISE from Green Mountains.

One circuit. Grip shoes. Shell. Spare socks. A firm time to leave the plateau. If alerts say no, switch to the short waterfall day — that is still a good day.

Written from official Queensland Parks notes. Check official pages on the day.

Timeline

  1. Night before

    Alerts or cancel

Read park alerts and the Toolona journey page. Residual cyclone / flood damage can close creek circuits — we will not invent which. Pack 2 L+ water, lunch, shell, first-aid, leech strategy, headlamp for short winter days.

  2. Early

    Canungra climb

Leave early enough to be walking in the morning, not after a café hour at O’Reilly’s. Fuel in Canungra. 36 km winding bitumen. No RVs >6 m / towing.

  3. Walk

    Clockwise Toolona

Signed Green Mountains trailhead. Clockwise. Do not swim or jump at falls. Turn around at flooded crossings. Coverage in the gorge is poor — that is expected.

  4. After

    Coffee then downhill

Private O’Reilly’s facilities if open. Then the descent while you still have patience. Do not add Box Forest “because Elabana.”

  • Short waterfall day if rain, alerts or energy fail

  • Toolona Creek CircuitToolona Creek Circuit is a 17.4 km Grade 4 loop from Green Mountains (about 6 hours). Queensland Parks recommends walking it clockwise. Creek lines, multiple falls, roots and wet rock — this is the reason many people climb the plateau, and the walk that wrecks a late-start Gold Coast day.
  • Box Forest CircuitBox Forest Circuit is a 10.9 km Grade 4 loop from Green Mountains (about 4 hours). Elabana Falls is the name most visitors remember. Still a real creek day: wet rock, roots, and official clockwise notes to verify on the journey page.
