Why Binna Burra is a different park day
Binna Burra is the eastern Lamington section: Beechmont road, lodge precinct, Antarctic beech at Tullawallal, Caves Track toward Coomera Valley views, and the other end of the Border Track. It is not “O’Reilly’s from the other car park.”
Gold Coast visitors often land here because the drive feels shorter than Canungra–Green Mountains. That is fine — if the walks you wanted actually live here.
Getting there
Via Nerang / Beechmont. Queensland Parks notes the last 1.8 km is very narrow and winding. Allow about 70 minutes from Broadbeach as a typical time — more on weekends. No public transport. Fuel and food belong in Nerang or Beechmont, not assumed at the trailhead.
Walks that belong here
Tullawallal Circuit (5 km, ~1.5 hr, Grade 3) for beech and Gondwana context. Caves Track (7 km return, ~2 hr, Grade 4) for valley views — keep moving at Kweebani Cave (rockfall warning). Border Track finish or start if you planned the shuffle.
Do not add Coomera Gorge, Ballunjui Falls, Egg Rock or other restricted-access areas as “nearby viewpoints.” They are closed to unauthorised entry for safety, rare species or cultural reasons.
Lodge vs park
Binna Burra Mountain Lodge and the adjacent privately managed campground are commercial neighbours. Book their beds and sites on their channels. Queensland Parks remote bush camping is a different permit system and closes 1 December–31 January.
How Binna Burra days fail
You wanted Toolona waterfalls and you are at Binna Burra at 11am. Do Tullawallal or Caves Track. Do not transfer to Green Mountains and start Toolona after lunch.
You treat Egg Rock as a secret lookout. It is restricted-access Yugambeh cultural landscape. Stay on signed tracks.
Highlights at a glance

Full daylight — ~7 hr walking + two winding drives + shuffle
Border Track one-way (car shuffle)
Green Mountains to Binna Burra (or reverse) on the Border Track: 21.4 km one way, about 7 hours, Grade 4. No ordinary through-road. Logistics first, rainforest second. Not stacked with Toolona or Tree Top Walk.

Multi-day (54 km Gold Coast Hinterland Great Walk) — not a day trip
Overnight on the Hinterland Great Walk (planning notes)
Overnight notes for the Gold Coast Hinterland Great Walk via Lamington’s Border Track: official permits, Dec–Jan remote-camp closure, private lodges booked separately, patchy phone coverage, and a post-storm check of alerts. Not a first Lamington visit.

FAQ — Binna Burra
Tap a question to expand the answer.
Can I do Toolona from Binna Burra?
Not as a casual hop. Toolona starts at Green Mountains. The Border Track is a 21.4 km one-way between the sections — not a transfer road. Pick the section that matches the walk.
Is Egg Rock a good lookout add-on?
No. Egg Rock (Kurraragin) is a restricted-access area. It is not a visitor attraction. Stay on signed tracks such as Tullawallal and Caves Track.
Where do I book the Binna Burra campground?
The campground adjacent to Binna Burra is privately managed — book via the operator, not the Queensland Parks vehicle-camp system. QPWS remote bush camping is a separate permit product.
