Guide updated · verify Queensland Parks for park camping
Book official Queensland Parks remote bush camping if you actually want a walk-in camp — permit, tag, and the 1 December–31 January closure. O’Reilly’s Campground and Binna Burra campground are private — book their channels, not the QPWS vehicle-camp system. When you want a commercial bed, base by intent: Canungra for Green Mountains, Beechmont / Nerang for Binna Burra, Gold Coast / Brisbane / Tamborine for day-trip logistics.
Some stay, tour and gear links may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Park fees and Queensland Parks bookings are never affiliated.
Families
Canungra or a private lodge/camp if facilities matter. Grade 4 creek circuits are not a default kids overnight. Official remote camps are walk-in — not a car-beside-tent family default.
Early starts
Sleep in Canungra for Toolona, or Beechmont for Tullawallal, so the winding climb is not the whole morning. Last easy fuel is in those towns, not on the Border Track.
Closest to the walk
Green Mountains walks → Canungra or O’Reilly’s (private). Binna Burra walks → Beechmont or Binna Burra Lodge (private). The other section is a different road, not a shortcut.
Book only via the Queensland National Parks Booking Service. Permit + fee; display your tag. All remote bush camps close 1 December–31 January. Queensland Parks fees from 1 July 2026: $7.75 per person per night or $31.00 per family per night — check the booking page. The Cyclone Alfred severe-weather alert (to 31 Dec 2026) also suspends permits for closed remote camps. Camping without a permit attracts fines. This site does not affiliate park camping.
O’Reilly’s Campground (Green Mountains) and the Binna Burra campground are privately managed. Tent sites, some powered/camper options and safari-style products live on theirbooking channels — not the standard QPWS vehicle-campground system. Lodge rooms are commercial too. Confirm current facilities with the operator.

Canungra
Last ordinary town before the Green Mountains climb — fuel, food and a bed when you do not want the plateau road twice in one day.
Access-road / hinterland context (not a hotel exterior)
City base if you can leave at dawn. A Lamington day from Brisbane is a full day once you count the drive both ways — leave time to get home in daylight.
Park waterfall context for a city-base day trip (not a CBD hotel)
Optional guided hinterland days and rainforest kit after you have chosen a base above. Official Queensland Parks camping and park bookings are never affiliated.
Guided tours
Optional — useful when you do not want to drive the winding plateau roads
Spare socksCreek crossings and leech country — dry feet keep a 6-hour circuit civil
