Things to do in Lamington National Park

Most first visits revolve around Green Mountains short walks or one Grade 4 circuit if you are fit and early. Binna Burra is a different road and a different forest day. The Tree Top Walk is iconic and private. Restricted-access country is not a scavenger hunt.

Some stay, tour and gear links may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Park fees and Queensland Parks bookings are never affiliated.

Day one rule

Pick one section and one primary experience. Do not collect Toolona, Tree Top Walk and Binna Burra on a first Brisbane day trip.

Weather / energy bail-out

Centenary plus a lookout beats pushing a creek circuit in flood, fog or tired kids. Turning around early is still a good day.

Restricted-area filter

If a map pin is not a signed graded track, it is not your activity. Egg Rock is not a lookout add-on.

  1. 1

    Lookouts (signed only)

Escarpment views · stay on platforms

Python Rock (constructed lookout), Moran’s Falls lookout, and signed Binna Burra / Border Track viewpoints. Natural lookouts may be unfenced — stay back. Restricted cliffs are not lookouts.

  2. 2

    Waterfall circuits

Grade 4 · wet rock · alerts first

Toolona Creek Circuit and Box Forest (Elabana Falls) are the Green Mountains Grade 4 creek days. Moran’s Falls is the shorter named-falls lookout. Do not swim or jump.

  3. 3

    Easy / accessible walking

    Grade 1 · 1.8 km return · ~30 min

Centenary Track is Grade 1 sealed (accessible with assistance — confirm official notes). The honest mixed-ability Green Mountains start.

  4. 4

    Tree Top Walk (private)

Private · Green Mountains · budget time

Iconic canopy bridges at O’Reilly’s — privately operated, not a Queensland Parks track. Tickets and hours are the operator’s. A complete morning if you let it be; a Toolona-killer if you stack it.

  5. 5

    Wildlife (no fake in-situ claims)

    Watch · don’t chase · not a zoo

Rainforest birds (including Albert’s lyrebird if you are quiet and lucky), pademelons at dusk near cleared edges, reptiles on warm rock. This guide does not pretend stock photos were taken on your track. Keep distance; no feeding; snakes and ticks are ordinary.

  6. 6

    Picnic areas

    Day-use · not a camp

Signed day-use at Green Mountains and Binna Burra. Facilities change — verify on site. Lodge lawns are private. Pack out what you pack in.

  7. 7

    Gold Coast Hinterland Great Walk

    Multi-day · permits · logistics

54 km multi-day. Lamington’s Border Track is a major spine. Permit remote camps; closed 1 Dec–31 Jan. Not a first-visit day trip.

  8. 8

    Restricted areas — not attractions

Culture · safety · rare species

Poondahra cliffs, Egg Rock (Kurraragin), Snake Ridge, East Mount Gipps, Ballunjui Falls, Black Canyon, Coomera Gorge: closed to unauthorised entry. Do not add them to a “things to do” list in your head.
