Moran’s Falls Track
Area: Green Mountains (O’Reilly’s)
Guide updated · verify live track status with Queensland Parks
Moran’s Falls Track is a 4.4 km return Grade 4 walk (about 1.5 hours) from the Python Rock and Moran’s Falls trailhead. Down through forest to a lookout over the falls — short by Lamington standards, still wet-rock serious.
Do not pair: Not with Toolona or Border Track on a first short-walk day.
Turnaround: Turn around if the descent is already sketchy in rain — the climb out is the same track wetter.
- Parking at O’Reilly’s and assuming Moran’s starts at the café door without the Centenary link or the correct trailhead.
- Adding Toolona after Moran’s because “we still have energy” at 1pm.
- Grade 4 · waterfall lookout return
- About 1.5 hours walking
- 4.4 km return
- Effort: moderate
- Best for: First Green Mountains visit that still wants a named waterfall without a 6-hour circuit

Where you start
Python Rock and Moran’s Falls trailhead
Trailhead on Lamington National Park Road, about 4.9 km from the park entrance — not automatically the Green Mountains day-use loop. You can link via Centenary Track from the O’Reilly’s / day-use area.
How to get there
- Green Mountains via Canungra. Watch for the Python Rock and Moran’s Falls trailhead before the final lodge/day-use area.
- Alternatively walk the sealed Centenary Track from Green Mountains day-use (adds distance/time).
How to do it (step by step)
- Start at the signed Moran’s Falls track. It is downhill to the lookout — budget the climb back.
- Stay behind barriers and on the formed track at the falls lookout. Do not scramble the cliff.
- Optional: Python Rock from the same trailhead if energy remains — that is a separate Grade 3 return, not “part of Moran’s.”
What to expect
Official: 4.4 km return, about 1.5 hours, Grade 4, Python Rock and Moran’s Falls trailhead. You walk down to a lookout over Moran’s Falls, then climb back. It is the honest “named waterfall” product for mixed groups who should not start Toolona.
Trailhead honesty
The Moran’s / Python trailhead sits on the access road before the main Green Mountains day-use area. Centenary Track (Grade 1, 1.8 km return, ~30 min) links toward day-use — useful, not invisible distance.
Failure: circling for lodge parking while the correct trailhead had space. Read signs, not only the O’Reilly’s pin.
Packing list (shell, grip, water) lives on the gear hub— not as a merch wall on every walk. Pairing and Plan B: plan your visit · Wrong section / full car park Plan B.

Extra tips
- Grade 4 on a “short” walk still means rough surface and a real climb out.
- Pairs cleanly with Python Rock and Centenary for a first-visit Green Mountains day.
Itineraries that use this walk
Often paired with Python Rock— only if energy and weather allow.
