Python Rock Track
Area: Green Mountains (O’Reilly’s)
Guide updated · verify live track status with Queensland Parks
Python Rock Track is a 3.1 km return Grade 3 walk (about 1 hour) to a constructed lookout over Moran’s Falls, Castle Crag and Mount Razorback. Same trailhead family as Moran’s Falls — different product.
Do not pair: Do not treat Castle Crag / Lost World escarpment as an off-track extension.
Turnaround: If the lookout is in cloud, you still completed the walk — do not guess a creek detour.
- Driving to Binna Burra for “the Python Rock waterfall day.” Python Rock is Green Mountains.
- Skipping the lookout barriers for a drone or cliff-edge photo.
- Grade 3 · lookout return
- About 1 hour walking
- 3.1 km return
- Effort: moderate
- Best for: Escarpment views (Moran’s Falls, Castle Crag, Mount Razorback) without a creek circuit

Where you start
Python Rock and Moran’s Falls trailhead
Green Mountains section, about 4.9 km from the park entrance on Lamington National Park Road. Not wheelchair accessible; Centenary Track nearby is the Grade 1 sealed option.
How to get there
- Via Canungra to Green Mountains. Trailhead on the access road before the main day-use loop.
- Can combine with Centenary Track from Green Mountains day-use if you parked at the far end.
How to do it (step by step)
- Follow the signed Python Rock Track to the constructed lookout.
- Stay on the platform. Supervise children. The view is the product — not a scramble toward Castle Crag.
- Return the same way. Optional Moran’s Falls is a separate Grade 4 return from the same trailhead.
What to expect
Official: 3.1 km return, about 1 hour, Grade 3, constructed lookout. Views toward Moran’s Falls, Castle Crag and Mount Razorback on a clear day. Fog is a valid Lamington outcome — the walk still counts.
Same trailhead, different walk
Moran’s Falls (Grade 4, 4.4 km) and Python Rock (Grade 3, 3.1 km) share a trailhead precinct. Decide which one is the hero before you lace up. Doing both is a reasonable Green Mountains morning; adding Toolona after both is how you finish the descent in the dark.
Packing list (shell, grip, water) lives on the gear hub— not as a merch wall on every walk. Pairing and Plan B: plan your visit · Wrong section / full car park Plan B.

Extra tips
- Strong first-visit lookout if Toolona is too much weather or too much time.
- Not the same as Moran’s Falls track — people mix the names. Check the sign.
